A mission to end homelessness in our local community

Homeless indicators are increasing between the two censuses of 2016 and 2023, according to Lucy Hohnen, CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn, in his advocacy statement on 25 August 2023.

In Lucy’s statement, the homelessness situation in ACT is not favourable. There has been a decrease in social housing dwellings while 3059  households are on the waiting list and 89 days on average for vacant public house turning around. More commitment to end this crisis is required from every stakeholder.

For more than 12 years, Canberra Toyota has been a close partner with St Vincent de Paul Society trying to curb to homelessness in our community with the belief that "It’s time to end homelessness".

Since 2012, Mirko Milic, Canberra Toyota Dealer Principal, has been one of the top individual fund raisers, and he has raised more than $250,000. He also was the 3rd best individual fundraiser announced in 2019, with a personal best tally of over $27,000 and first in 2020.
As a local community support company, Canberra Toyota also has greatly contributed to the cause with nearly a million dollars raised over the past 10 years. It is the achievement for positive changes for the local community in Canberra, and it is thanks to our customers, friends, and colleagues who make this possible.

As a local community friend, we are looking forward to the new round of campaigns to continue our commitment to ending homelessness in Canberra. Stay tuned with Canberra Toyota’s efforts in enriching our local community with different sustainable and inclusive approaches with our social media and website.
